Who you’ll work with

You'll work in Germany or Amsterdam as part of McKinsey’s Assessment Team.

Our Assessment team is a global team serving the entire firm, and all members have extensive experience in applying key principles of structure and job-relatedness to the development of selection methods such as interviews,tests and job simulations.  The entire team shares a passion for achieving excellence, efficiency and fairness throughout the candidate assessment process. 

Our mission is to determine on what dimensions to evaluate candidates for professional roles and to develop, disseminate and train our assessors on the methods we select.  This work is always changing in response to growth, new roles and geographies, technology and trends affecting how candidates want to interact with us. McKinsey faces a relatively new and growing challenge in assessing professionals for an increasingly diverse set of roles which require not only core strengths in problem solving and client service skills but also deep knowledge and experience.

What you’ll do

You will work closely with internal client organizations to understand the roles they are hiring into and design assessment processes best suited to those roles and groups.

You will research, develop and/or collaborate on acquiring new tools and practices to evaluate skills in key targeted areas such as Digital, Analytics and an array of priority industries. Additionally, you will partner with clients in implementing new processes, tools and infrastructure to execute new assessment procedures.

You will also conduct training on assessment methods to recruiting leaders and assessors, tailored to roles driven by knowledge and experience. You will provide ongoing counsel to internal clients as they seek to implement and improve upon methods, encounter new roles, measure performance of methods, educate stakeholders, etc., and share best practices across internal client organizations.

  • 2 years+ experience working in a professional services firm (consulting, banking or law)
  • Advanced degree preferred
  • Academic or professional experience including applied psychology and/or advanced analytics preferred
  • Proficiency with key tools to support your work such as MS Office and ability to acquire skills to use new ones
  • Strong problem solving skills to enable you to engage with professionals in a variety of industries and functions and quickly understand their work, their needs and to creatively collaborate on new ways to meet them
  • Strong client service skills to develop and maintain relationships with team members, internal clients, external advisors and vendors
  • Strong communication skills to support inquisitive data gathering, collaboration, and the development of presentations of findings and recommendations for a variety of audiences and formats
  • Ability to work independently and drive important projects forward in a timely way
  • 60% - 100% time position
  • Ability to work at least half of working hours on Eastern Time to facilitate collaboration and coaching
  • Occasional travel, primarily in US and Europe, estimated at 1-2 times per month for 1-3 days per trip
  • Some scope for remote/home-based work
