Who you’ll work with

You’ll work with our Energy Insights Data Analytics team in Wroclaw. Energy Insights is part of McKinsey Solutions and McKinsey’s New Ventures. 
Energy Insights, a specialist data and analytics unit, provides distinctive analysis, insights, and support to energy players. We offer services along the oil and gas value chain, including exploration and production, refining and marketing, natural gas, trading and oil field services, and equipment.

Energy Insights’ dedicated specialists apply proprietary tools and methodologies and a data-driven approach. With our strong ties with McKinsey’s oil and gas consulting practice and access to the expertise of the wider McKinsey network, our research and analysis yield knowledge available nowhere else.

What you’ll do

As Big Data Specialist you will support us in building a solid and highly scalable Data Platform for the Solution. We expect you to be a thought partner to senior team members in designing effective architectures and deciding on the right software to apply.
You will be responsible for coordinating one work stream within a team, which will include providing operational supervision to a couple of ongoing projects assuring timely delivery and setting up corresponding services.
Within the work stream assigned, you will spend the majority of your time designing and developing tools for proper data acquisition and transformation using a wide range of software and techniques. You will be encouraged to experiment quite a bit in order to find the best solution to a problem at hand.
You are expected to provide coaching and technical guidance to junior colleagues on a regular basis. Furthermore, we would like you to contribute through your ideas and innovations to continual improvement of our data collection and management process, bolstering this way a robust data governance program within Energy Insights.



 

Qualifications
•    Masters’ degree in technical discipline such as computer science, information systems or engineering. 
•    4+ years of overall experience in IT with focus on databases, ETL development and programming. 
•    Knowledge of  Data/Web Content/Text Mining domain would be a plus
•    Avid predilection to data management & processing in general with the ability to create innovative solutions for data content or data format challenges
•    Strong project management skills
•    Ability to implement code and scripts (e.g. SQL, Python, VBA, …)
•    Strong technical troubleshooting and analytical skills
•    Understanding of economic, financial, and general business concepts and terminology
•    Effective verbal and written communication skills
•    A professional attitude and service orientation, with the ability to work with international teams
