Energy Insights is seeking an Oilfield Services Analyst for its Market Analytics group. Focusing on the oil & gas and broader energy sector, you will develop and deliver high-end analytics to aid in our market analysis and forecasts for both the internal and external clients. McKinsey & Company launched Energy Insights in 2011 to further strengthen and extend its consulting services in the oil & gas sector. What you’ll do

The Oilfield Services Analyst will focus on the oilfield service and equipment segments in North America. Candidates are expected to have a clear understanding of the oil & gas value chain and industrial equipment markets, with previous work experience in oil & gas strongly preferred.  The Oilfield Services Analyst will be working with client service teams from across the globe on equipment and service segments serving the oil & gas industry (more specifically on modeling and market monitoring). He/she will contribute to the development of knowledge and client services focused in the areas of oilfield services and equipment in North America. 

Responsibilities:

The Oilfield Services Analyst will spend a significant part of his/her time monitoring the oil, natural gas, service, and equipment markets in North America. Analysts are expected to develop insights in support McKinsey’s consulting business, with opportunities over time to participate in client-facing projects. Specific tasks performed will include, but are not limited to:

  • Monitor the key trends in North American equipment and services market
  • Maintain, update, and improve Energy Insight’s underlying models
  • Support the global Oil & Gas practice with the development of market insights
  • Support client servicing activities
  • Provide expert advice to consulting teams on oilfield services related topics leveraging Energy Insights advanced analytics in the area
As an Analyst with Energy Insights, you will spend most or all of your time serving clients and developing proprietary insights and services. Consequently, you will have an excellent opportunity to:
  • Help build a new entrepreneurial, client-facing business. Energy Insights is an extension of McKinsey's service and is expected to grow substantially within the next five years. It has a dedicated executive team and board in place that is committed to its success.
  • Develop your consulting expertise and networks at the intersection of two dynamic sectors. McKinsey’s oil & gas clients currently face major decisions on new investments and operating practices. You will work with leading oil & gas companies, tackling topics central to the CEO agenda such as global supply and demand, operational performance improvement and investment strategies. You will also help some of the world’s leading PE firms identify and assess acquisitions in this sector.
  • Open up multiple future career options. As Energy Insights grows, the start-up, business development and PE experience you gain will help position you to advance to more senior roles in the organization. Qualifications
Knowledge and Skills:
  • A minimum of one year of experience in oil and gas with exposure to the service and equipment segments
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, teamwork, and communication skills
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with an ability to take initiative and operate with minimal supervision
Education and previous experience:
  • Undergraduate degree with an outstanding academic record
  • A minimum of one year of professional work experience with consulting, research and analytics or industry serving oil and gas clients
Location:
  • This role is based in Houston
