Who you’ll work with

You’ll work in our Nairobi office as part of our Sustainable Urban Economic Development (SUED) team.

SUED is a donor-funded, 6-year programme whose core objective is to provide sustainable urban economic development in Small and Medium Towns (SMTs) in Kenya. The programme improved urban economic planning at county level, improved sub-national business environment reforms, and established an Urban Investment Advisory Facility (UIAF) to support public-private investment in Infrastructure and high potential value chains across Kenya.

What you’ll do

You will coordinate and organise stakeholder engagement forums and provides political analysis input into programme assessment and design.

You’ll ensure the SUED programme is locally-owned and has support from the national and county stakeholders. This includes developing a holistic stakeholder engagement plan and a stakeholder prioritisation matrix for the SUED programme. You’ll also establish a stakeholders map by identifying all stakeholders, indicating their expectations and managing towards their expectations.

Additionally, you’ll develop and manage strong relationships with the county government, private sector participants and CSOs from the inception stage of the project to ensure that the SUED programme has local ownership and support. You’ll establish an effective communication strategy to implement the programme, and you’ll develop a communication process to transfer knowledge. This will allow us to document and share key findings and best practices.

  • A relevant graduate degree
  • Strong intellectual capacity and an impressive track record in strategic stakeholder engagement spanning government, regulators, business and NGOs/CSOs groups
  • Ability to distill complex issues into succinct messages and present confidently to a variety of internal and external stakeholders
  • Demonstrated understanding of the devolution of functions of national vs. county governments and working experience with county government
  • Demonstrated experience leading a public initiative at either national or county level
  • Understanding of the political economy within the country, be culturally well-networked and energetic
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
