You'll work with our IT Operations & Production (ITOP) in San Jose, Costa Rica. ITOP is part of the Global IT Services organization.  The team is responsible for managing the Firm’s entire global IT applications and infrastructure.

UNIX, backup and storage support is a part of the ITOP services. The Senior Technical Specialist-Unix, Backup, Storage  provides administration and 2nd level technical support for McKinsey’s Firm-wide AIX and Linux server, TSM backup and storage environments, and related systems for security protection, monitoring, software distribution, etc. Beyond that, s/he contributes to the continuous improvement of these environments and related support procedures.

Typical for the role is that the Senior Technical Specialist-Unix, Backup, Storage encounters a variety of support requests in the defined area on a regular basis in a fast-paced environment. This requires the individual to be highly adaptable and open to work on new tasks. S/he has to keep up with a rapidly changing environment through a strong willingness and ability to learn.

Key responsibilities include tasks like perform administration and 2nd level support for our Firm-wide AIX and Linux servers (both physical and virtual), TSM backup infrastructure and storage environments, conduct advanced troubleshooting in these areas that may be not documented in regular procedures, p
erform root cause analysis including the identification of workarounds and solutions as part of the problem management process and occasional participation in infrastructure-related projects.

Qualifications
  • Technical knowledge of Splunk 
  • Technical knowledge of Up.Time monitoring
  • Technical knowledge of Centrify Suite
  • Being passionate about technologies such as server infrastructure, UNIX server operating systems, virtualization technology, backup & recovery, SAN and storage technology, etc.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent 
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in managing a globally distributed UNIX server environment supporting business critical applications
  • Strong command of English language
  • Willingness to work in the shift from 11am to 8pm
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Solid sense for operational priorities
  • Distinct quality mindset and service attitude
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work both independently and in various team settings
  • Strong process management background and interest in developing and optimizing processes
  • Strong technical expertise and hands-on support experience with AIX, PowerVM, HMC, NIM, and power systems
  • Strong technical expertise and hands-on support experience with SuSE Linux in a virtual environment (VMWare and PowerVM)
  • Solid working knowledge of SAN and storage systems
  • Solid working knowledge of Tivoli Storage Manager and backup operations
  • Solid working knowledge of  TCP/IP networking protocol, routing principles and network security
  • Familiarity with data center operations best practices, ideally in a virtualized environment (PowerVM, VMWare, storage systems, tape operations)
