ITOP - Senior Network Specialist - San Jose - Costa Rica
Who you’ll work with

You'll work with our IT Operations and Production (ITOP) team in San José, Costa Rica.  ITOP is part of the Global IT Services organization, the team is responsible for managing the firm’s entire global IT infrastructure. Network Support is part of the ITOP services.

Working with our ITOP team in San José will offer you first-hand experiences with the support of a broad range of leading edge IT infrastructure technologies, and it will offer you the opportunity to work in a globally dispersed, multi-national environment.

What you’ll do

You will be responsible for managing and monitoring Wide Area Network routers, LAN switches (layer 2 and 3), firewalls, VPN concentrator switches, and global remote access components.

Additional network services like WAN optimization or traffic load balancing are part of the ITOP Network groups' responsibility as well.  
Beyond that, you will contribute to the continuous improvement of the global network environment and related operations procedures. You'll support internal customers, the majority of whom are members of the IT support entities.
 
Due to the global scope of IT operations, all communication is in English, both for the products as well as for customer and team interactions. You will typically encounter a variety of support requests in the defined area on a regular basis and be working in a fast-paced environment.  This will require you to be highly adaptable and open to work on new tasks. You will be expected to keep up with a rapidly changing environment through a strong willingness and ability to learn.

The Senior Technical Specialists Network in both the San José and Gurgaon offices work as a global team in a follow-the-sun principle to support our McKinsey colleagues on a 24/7 basis. As team members, they demonstrate a collaborative style and the willingness to help others. They share knowledge as well as best practices with their team members in Gurgaon, and they shoulder additional responsibilities at times of high workload or demand.

You'll perform administration and second level support for all components within the firm's global IP networks, you'll perform root cause analysis including the identification of workarounds and solutions as part of the problem management process, and you'll also conduct advanced troubleshooting in these areas that may be not documented in regular procedures.   You'll additionally work with external telecom service providers to resolve connectivity issues, and you'll collaborate in project teams to continuously enhance our global network environment and its support by developing and promoting support procedures and best practices.

Qualifications
  • Being passionate about technologies such as current networking trends, network dynamics, impact to performance and stability, network/application interaction, etc.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in managing a globally distributed network environment supporting business-critical applications
  • Strong command of English language
  • Willingness to work in shifts (currently 11am to 8pm)
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Solid sense for operational priorities
  • Distinct quality mindset and service attitude
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work both independently and in various team settings
  • Strong process management background and interest in developing and optimizing processes
  • Strong technical working knowledge on Cisco devices (routers/switches/wireless architecture, in particular Datacenter environment), TCP/IP protocol family as well as dynamic routing on the basis of BGP.
  • Hands-on experience with DNS, firewall concepts & management,AAA with TACACS+ and Radius, network management with SNMP and NETFLOW/SFLOW
  • In-depth knowledge on data transport protocols and data analysis using sniffers like tcpdump & wireshark
  • Good understanding of cryptographic concepts implementations
  • Working experience with platforms from Juniper, F5, Riverbed, Bluecoat or Palo Alto
  • Experience with network management tools such as Ciscoworks, NCS, Tivoli ITNM, Riverbed CMC, Bluecoat Director
  • Experience with scripting for automation and monitoring tasks, ideally in PERL, Python and/or shell
