The China Knowledge Center (CKC) is part of the McKinsey Shanghai office and home to more than 100 knowledge professionals with specialized knowledge and expertise in a wide variety of industries.

The China Digital Center of Competence (CoC) supports the Digital service line within the Business Technology Office practice. It serves as a centralized hub of Digital experts that houses key proprietary knowledge assets of the service line. 

What you’ll do

The primary job responsibilities of the (Sr.) Analyst would fall into three categories:  (1) collecting, analyzing and synthesizing information that serve as critical inputs to client service teams, particularly within the Digital area; (2) developing expertise in Digital and managing proprietary knowledge assets of the service line; and (3) staffing on client engagements as a knowledge professional, either remote or on-site. Such on-site staffing could be domestic or global in nature.

As an Analyst focused on Digital capabilities, you are expected to:

  • Have understanding of how digital – eCommerce, Social, Mobile, Analytics, Cloud, etc. – enables/impact technology driven solutions
  • Provide domain expertise in Digital strategy and operations topics, e.g., Digital transformation planning, Digital organization setup, Digital marketing delivery, etc.  Your work will help shape critical business decisions for our clients and will require an in-depth analysis, data modelling and communicating in a structured and top down manner.
Functional Competence (1-2 areas needed per candidate):
  • Digital sales or eCommerce (primarily B2C) strategy and delivery experience, including channel management, product assortment, product pricing, digital marketing, customer/loyalty management, supply chain/fulfillment, and other eCommerce operations knowledge and expertise (either from brand/retailer or eCommerce platform side)
  • Digital process design and optimization experience, focusing on either front end client facing process (e.g., client registration/on-boarding/account opening, etc.) or back end operations process(e.g., inventory management, order to cash, etc.) digitization design and optimization
  • Digital/IT strategy and implementation experience with financial institutions (e.g., banking/insurance/wealth management, etc.), including Digital/IT planning, FinTech strategy, online finance platform building, core platform transformation/implementation, architecture design, governance model design, etc.
  • Other digital operations experience and knowledge, including but not limited to social media, big data/advanced analytics, cloud computing, mobile app/platform, etc.

  • Undergraduate or post-graduate from reputed university, with at least 2 years of relevant work experience
  • Strong understanding and knowledge of China IT/Digital/Online services industry, trends, key players/vendors
  • Strong understanding of key Digital/IT operations topics (e.g., eCommerce delivery, Digital marketing, Digital organization, FinTech, Digital/IT strategy and transformation)
  • Excellent English communication skills, both written and oral
  • Professional attitude and service orientation
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team
  • Superior problem-solving, analytical, and quantitative skills
  • Creative thinking and strive for quality
  • Excited about working in a highly result-oriented team environment
  • Willingness to travel to other offices/client locations for short/long-term assignments
