Who you’ll work with

As a Senior Implementation Leader (SIL) you will work within McKinsey Implementation (MI) – a rapidly growing capability for our firm. The Australian group has offices in Perth, Melbourne, and Sydney, however our work is national with travel to our clients’ sites.  As a member of MI, you’ll work closely with our client project teams, providing end-to-end support to ensure the clients are able to deliver and sustain the full benefits of McKinsey’s recommended change in their business. Your goal as an implementation coach is to help clients build these capabilities in delivery and execution, both during an active project and continuing after our consultants have shared their recommendations.

What you’ll do

Passionate about coaching individuals to see them succeed, Senior Implementation Leaders are responsible for leading teams of implementation consultants who deliver impact on critical issues that are faced by leading businesses across ANZ. Specifically SIL’s help to build our clients’ capabilities, encouraging them to achieve success beyond their expectations. As a SIL you are an outstanding analyst, as well as a pragmatic and empathetic individual who listen to clients’ concerns, and brings out the best in their teams. Your distinctive strength is in knowing how to work with and coach individuals to “get things done” and successfully drive major change across organisations.

Senior Implementation Leaders come to our Firm as experienced professionals with deep industry and leadership experience and high levels of recognition in their career thus far. 

Some recent examples of our work include:

A 12-month project to stabilise a mining operation with a legacy of poor accountability - reducing underperforming shifts by 80 percent, increasing productivity by 24 percent, and shifting the company’s culture to promote lasting change.

A 2-year transformation of a hospital network with 30 facilities and about 35,000 beds that involved over 250 separate projects - helping the client reduce its costs by 2 percent and its deficit by 20 percent.

Qualifications
  • 18+ years post graduate experience ideally working in both management consulting and leadership roles across a range of different industries.
  • Evidence of a distinctive career trajectory and/or academic record of achievement.
  • Industry experience preferably gained within Mining, Oil & Gas, Infrastructure, Manufacturing or the Service Industries; experience should include time spent on, or leading, operations.
  • Exposure to project/program roles with strong people management responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated track record in building client capabilities, delivering results, and seeing a lasting impact.
  • Functional skills which lead quickly to client impact, e.g., maintenance, lean operations, Six Sigma, kaizen, procurement, banking/retail operations, sales and marketing, organisational change.
  • The ability to ‘roll up your sleeves’ and work across all levels of the client’s organisation to deliver lasting results.
  • An interest in people, with strong influencing, coaching and communication skills, plus a passion for seeing others succeed.
  • Ability to handle ambiguity, and structure ill-defined problems to implement and deliver results.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to translate analysis into prioritised recommendations.
  • An excellent academic background with a Masters or MBA preferred.
